Indigo Dyeing with Alexandra Arellano

(JULY 28) 3:00PM-7:00PM

  • $45-$60
  • Old Orchard Road

Service Description

We will be learning how to dip-dye using processed/powered Indigo. This method allows the dyer to dye an array of things, ranging from clothing to fibers to woods and takes a little less time. This workshop can be done on an open-fire or stovetop - whichever works best, contingent on weather and whatnot. Attendees should bring whatever piece of fabric, clothing or fiber they wish to dye. We will also cover needed safety and protection in the dye lab, materials needed, how to set-up a proper dye area and different dyeing materials, along with various modalities and techniques that will vary weekly. Natural dyeing is contingent on a number of factors in every dye pot, such as (but not limited to): water pH, temperature, plant matter/organic material, fibers, type of dyeing apparatus implemented and pre/post-wash amendments. (JULY 28) 3:00PM-7:00PM *Class sign-up necessary. Drop-ins are welcome, but attendees need to make sure the class that is scheduled will happen - as minimum student quota must be met within 24 hours of the scheduled class. Classes that do not meet the minimum quota will be canceled.
