Hula-Hoop Series with Alexandra Arellano
June 13th, June 27th, July 11th, July 25th, August 8th, August 22nd
- Old Orchard Road
HULA-HOOP SERIES: FOR FLEXIBILITY, BALANCE AND EXERCISE In these workshops we will focus on learning how to use a hula-hoop(s) to facilitate movement into one's life. These classes are open to any level, but will be geared toward beginners and intermediate flow artists/Yogis. The principles and practices that will be workshopped throughout the series will focus on building-block movements and allowing the practitioners to learn how to start/progress from wherever they are in their flow journey. While these classes will have Yogic crossover, the focus will be on the incorporation of hula-hoops as a movement/dance partner. In hooping, many sequences and tricks are completely intertwined with Asanas from Yoga. These facets help to facilitate connection and focus. Using hula-hoops allows the user to experience a systematic and balanced movement partner, thus helping to facilitate a more cohesive learning environment. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that allows free and fluid movement, and will not hinder the practitioner or hoop's ability to move freely. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hula-hoops and any props they might need to facilitate these classes (i.e. yoga mat, yoga wheel, strap, water in a reusable container, etc.). Classes begin with a Yoga sequence consisting of gentle stretching and breathing. This promotes grounding and opening the body before working with the hoops and helps to minimize the risk of injuries. BI-WEEKLY ON SUNDAYS (10:00AM-11:30AM): June 13th, June 27th, July 11th, July 25th, August 8th, August 22nd *Class sign-up necessary.
