Color Shifting with Alexandra Arellano
(AUG 11) 3:00PM-7:00PM
- Old Orchard Road
This workshop can be done either on an open fire or stovetop set-up - contingent on weather. In this workshop, we will set out to explore the different colors that can be achieved through different pH shifts using various mediums. Students will be able to decide which color variance they would like to explore with their fiber. We will also cover needed safety and protection in the dye lab, materials needed, how to set-up a proper dye area and different dyeing materials, along with various modalities and techniques that will vary weekly. Natural dyeing is contingent on a number of factors in every dye pot, such as (but not limited to): water pH, temperature, plant matter/organic material, fibers, type of dyeing apparatus implemented and pre/post-wash amendments. (AUG 11) 3:00PM-7:00PM *Class sign-up necessary. Drop-ins are welcome, but attendees need to make sure the class that is scheduled will happen - as minimum student quota must be met within 24 hours of the scheduled class. Classes that do not meet the minimum quota will be canceled.
