The Endocannabinoid System
To understand how CBD (cannabidiol) works in our body, it is important to educate ourselves about the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) ;
a central component of the health and healing of every human being, and almost every animal!
The three main components that make up our ECS are:
Cannabinoid receptors- found on the surface of cells.
Endocannabinoids- small molecules that activate cannabinoid receptors.
Metabolic enzymes- enzymes that break down endocannabinoids after
Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body, including the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands & immune cells. The cannabinoid system performs different tasks depending on the ailment, but the end result is always the same: homeostasis Homeostasis is the maintenance of stable, internal environments, despite fluctuations in the external environment. So when we properly consume cannabinoids, our cannabinoid receptors are then activated and communicate to our cells, kick starting the appropriate cellular response. Balance within the body is a healthy mind, body & spirit.
